Author for Specialist Magazines and Lecturer at Colleges and Universities
In addition to the practical exercise of my job, I am always happy to pass on the knowledge and experience I have gained. With more than 20 years of professional experience as a film composer and sound designer, 18 awards and nominations in Europe and the USA (including the German Film Music Award), a wide range of styles and numerous projects from a wide variety of areas such as film, television, animation or advertising, I have accumulated a wealth of experience that I am happy to pass on.
On the one hand, this happens as a freelance author for specialist magazines, such as for "Sound & Recording" or "Keyboards". I have been writing professional articles or test reports about new releases in the areas of film music composition and production, or sound design, for over 10 years. Everything always with the required accuracy and seriousness, but still safely walking the fine line of making the sometimes rather dry subject matter easily receivable and entertaining with a wink and a pinch of humour.
Seminars and Lectures in the Fields of Film Music and Sound Design
When time permits, I also give seminars or lectures for students at colleges or universities. Various teaching assignments e.g. at the Institute for Music of the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg or at the University of Technology, Economics and Media in Offenburg have been realized in the meantime.
In the seminars offered, theoretical and practical aspects are conveyed. The spectrum ranges from introductions to the topic of audio (post)production and sound design to in-depth block seminars in which audio productions for films are created following theoretical and practical instructions. Depending on the level of knowledge of the students, these can be simple sound design exercises or complex sound designs, dramaturgical film music compositions, radio plays or film mixes.
I think it's important to deepen the design topics as well as the technical ones. In the seminar, the students should learn to develop their creativity, to direct it and to express it with the technical possibilities. So that later in professional life, creative, result-oriented work with digital tools is easily and precisely possible under time constraints.
Of course, I not only act as a knowledge broker, but am also the permanent contact person for content-related and technical questions from the students.
