Many companies appear on the market for just a short time; their history is over not long after they established themselves. And few of those companies able to maintain their presence on the market also succeed in becoming global players. The Bayer Corporation, currently celebrating its 150th anniversary, managed to do both.

One can only imagine that throughout the years, the story of Bayer has been a work of chiaroscuro. Directors Konstanze Burkhart and Falko Daub, who talked to employees as well as CEOs, shine an artistic light on various stages of the company’s history and paint a deft picture of Bayer’s journey from its establishment up until today.

The film score is mostly orchestral. It reflects the company’s dimensions and power and, at the same time, talks about family, comfort, pioneering spirit and environmental problems. A wide spectrum of emotions are reflected in a multi-faceted score that is intense, sometimes rhythmic, and often lyrical. As an orchestral composition, the music matches well with sequences of archive material featured in the film; however, its modern approach allows for a clear distinction between these two musical elements.
