A studio is more than just a room – I use it as an instrument. And like any instrument, a studio benefits from a thorough overhaul from time to time. During an extensive studio rebuild, the workflow for film scoring, sound design, and mixing was redesigned from the ground up. The goal was an environment where creative decisions can be made faster and more flexibly – while maintaining uncompromising audio quality – from the first idea to the final deliverables for film.

Ergonomics and new Monitoring

At the heart of the rebuild is a completely new production desk by Sessiondesk. The workspace is designed so that analog outboard gear is easier and more ergonomic to reach. The desk can also be raised into a standing position, enabling comfortable work while switching between sitting and standing – a tangible advantage in day-to-day studio life, especially during long sessions. For critical decisions, the fixed seated listening position in the optimal monitoring zone naturally remains the reference.

In addition, the stereo and 5.1 studio monitors underwent a comprehensive upgrade: a new, transparent, and detailed monitoring setup from Focal for stereo and Dolby Atmos was installed and calibrated.

Flexible routing for outboard and synthesizers

Behind the scenes, everything was restructured as well: cabling and routing were completely revised with flexibility in mind. Signal flow, outboard processing, and external synthesizers are now centrally integrated via two 96-point TT patchbays using Cordial cabling. This creates short paths from idea to execution – with a setup that supports fast rerouting, experimentation, and clean recall.

Additional analog outboard was also integrated, including units from SPL and Neve, expanding the sonic palette with the distinctive character of premium analog processors.

Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 as a natural next step

As a consistent evolution of the setup, the immersive expansion followed: Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 adds an additional spatial dimension to the sonic language – especially where perspective and movement are part of the narrative. Dolby Atmos is approached not merely as a technical option, but as a creative layer within film scoring and sound design: music and sound can be shaped precisely in space and aligned with the image for maximum impact.

At the same time, the setup also enables selected productions to be delivered as a Dolby Atmos Music Mix, created and supplied according to current specifications.
